New Orleans Saints teammates Drew Brees and Alvin Kamara welcomed Pelicans rookie Zion Williamson to training camp on Monday. As part of the honorary visit, Brees put together a bit of a skills challenge:

“We've got a little combo match here,” Brees said before kicking off the skills contest. “It's going to involve shooting baskets, but it's also going to involve throwing footballs at the basket.”

Contestants were given a variety of ways to score points. First, there were two rings placed on the ground to shoot from that awarded two points apiece. Then the players stepped back a bit for an attempt that Brees called “the NBA 3-point plus plus line,” which was worth three points. After that, participants were asked to make their way to the 30-yard line for yet another toss. Hitting anywhere on the backboard from this range awarded one point, hitting the square granted two points, the rim was worth three and actually making the shot earned five big points.

Finally, the contenders would step back to the 40-yard line for a “bonus throw,” as Brees put it. The same point system from the 30-yard toss applied here, but if someone managed to make the shot from that distance, they were automatically awarded a win.

“Zion said that's money in the bank,” Brees said before the game began.

Williamson started out strong, making the two initial shots from the rings that were placed on the ground. However, his 3-point attempt fell just short, and his football tosses sailed wide. In the end, he finished with four points. Brees, on the other hand, ended up winning the competition by way of a tiebreaker:

It's great to see Zion out and about in the New Orleans community. By most accounts, he'll be the face of the Pelicans in the very near future.
