The Pittsburgh Penguins entered their game on Tuesday looking to bounce back. Pittsburgh lost their last two games against the Detroit Red Wings and St. Louis Blues. And a win at home against a surging Dallas Stars team would be an incredible way to get out of a rut. Instead, the Penguins lost in front of their home fans, 4-1.
One major turning point came in the third period. The Stars had the puck in their offensive zone, and Penguins goalie Alex Nedeljkovic came out of his crease to poke the puck away. However, the puck did not leave the zone. Stars defenseman Thomas Harley found it before firing it home for the third Dallas goal.
After the game, Nedeljkovic owned up to his mistake. “I tend to be pretty aggressive, and it was the wrong decision. I got to just let whatever happens, happens. Behind the play we had some back pressure coming,” the Penguins puck-stopper said, via team reporter Michelle Crechiolo.
Overall, the Ohio native played well in his second game as a Penguin. He made 30 saves in the contest, keeping his team in the game through to the third period. However, the bad takes away from the good in Nedeljkovic's eyes.
“That’s the tough part – there was a lot of good in that game. A lot of good,” he said, via Crechiolo. “Unfortunately, there were some questionable decisions on my part that ended up costing us.”
The Penguins fell to 2-4-0 on the season with the loss Tuesday night. Their next game comes on Thursday in front of their home fans. They welcome the Colorado Avalanche to town hoping to avoid losing their fourth game in a row.
