The Pittsburgh Penguins had a chance to close out the New York Rangers in Game 5 on Wednesday night, but instead they suffered two major losses. There was the actual 5-3 loss in the game that will send the series back to Pittsburgh for a Game 6, and then there was the upper-body injury to superstar Sidney Crosby that should worry the Penguins.

Crosby suffered the injury in the second period after taking a high hit to the head from Rangers defenseman Jacob Trouba:

He finished the shift but then did not return to the ice. Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan didn't offer any specifics of the injury but was clearly incensed by the hit.

Via ESPN's Greg Wyshynski:

“Did you see the hit? You probably have the same opinion I do.”

Crosby has been dominant so far in these playoffs, ranking second in scoring with nine points in five games. This comes after the Penguins MVP scored 84 points in 69 regular-season games, including 31 goals.

Pittsburgh had a 2-0 lead in Game 5, only to see New York make a big comeback. The Penguins briefly recovered to make it a 3-3 game, but then the Rangers scored the final two goals of the game to force a Game 6.

Now we must wait and see what Crosby's status will be for Game 6 on Friday night. Not having Crosby would make life much more difficult for the Penguins to finish off this upset. Pittsburgh finished the regular season with 103 points compared New York's 110 points.
