The Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers are tied 3-3 in the first round of the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Either team has the chance to advance to the second round with a Game 7 win Sunday night in New York.

The Penguins had an opportunity to close out the series at home Friday night. Without Sidney Crosby on the ice, they couldn't come up with the win, falling 5-3 to the Rangers.

The captain was ruled out of the contest because of an injury he suffered in Game 5. The upper-body injury occurred with a little less than 11 minutes left in the second period. Crosby gained control of the puck in front of the Rangers' net and immediately took a hit from Jacob Trouba.

Crosby quickly got up and went straight to the Penguins' bench. Shortly after his exit, Pittsburgh gave up its 2-0 lead and lost Game 5 with a final score of 5-3.

After missing a game and a half, things are starting to look up for the Penguins captain ahead of Game 7. Crosby was on the ice participating in practice on Saturday. Pittsburgh writer Jason Mackey tweeted the major injury update Saturday morning.

If Crosby is available, it would be a huge boost for the Penguins. In the four full games he's played in the postseason tournament, Crosby has recorded two goals and seven assists. His offensive productivity is a major aspect of Pittsburgh's game, and they could really use his talents to close off this series Sunday night.
