Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is having himself a strange season. He's been fine, but Carr's sometimes stellar play gets marred by a few iffy games. Basically, he's not been as consistent as most people expected — although, to be fair to him, that isn't only his fault.

Despite the storied National Football League franchise unlikely going to the playoffs this season, Carr provides fans with a reason to remain optimistic for the long haul. So, yeah, there remains some goodness.

Anyway, Carr recently did an interview on the franchise's official website. During it, he not only discussed appreciating some of the love his teammates have given him, but how he needs to do better.

“Just the fact that your teammates vote for it, that really touched my heart. Just being candid. It really showed me that obviously I know there’s things I can do better, but it showed me that my teammates still see me for who I am. They still see me grinding through adverse times and those kinds of things. I gave you guys free permission to go ahead and kick me right in the funny business if I changed as a person after that. Because we signed a contract and all those things, it didn’t change me. If anything, it made me learn things throughout the course of time and want to be better. It definitely didn’t change how I work. It definitely didn’t change the effort I give.”

The entire Q&A is worthy of a read (if you're a fan of the Raiders).

At 6-8 on the season, Oakland was likely hoping to have a better campaign than it has, but there's no reason to think the Raiders won't get back to form next year.

Oakland is set to play the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night.
