The Boston Red Sox' 2022 season has been a rollercoaster of emotions. Fresh off an appearance in the Divisional Series, the team has suffered many injuries and setbacks this year. They still sit at an amazing record (45-38), to be fair. However, they're going to be facing stiff competition from the entire conference (and even their own division!).

Thankfully, help is on the way for the Red Sox. Two of their best arms from the last few years are making their way back from their respective injuries. Garrett Whitlock, along with Nathan Eovaldi, have both been assigned to their Triple-A affiliate to work their way back from injuries. (via NBC Sports)

Last season, Whitlock emerged as one of the more dependable arms from the Red Sox' bullpen. The relief pitcher recorded an 8-4 record in 2022 along with 2 saves, while posting an ERA of 1.96. This season, he's been asked to start games for the depleted Boston roster.

That experiment hasn't worked out well for the Red Sox reliever. Whitlock started in 9 of his 13 appearances this season. While he does have a 2-1 record, Whitlock's ERA has ballooned to 3.51; not a great indicator of things to come.

The good news for the Red Sox is that Whitlock will be likely returning to his usual post in the bullpen once he returns. Eovaldi and Chris Sale will be returning to the roster sooner than later. With those two back in action, Whitlock will most likely return to his comfort zone: saving his team's behind when their pitchers falter in their games.
