Rockets can set new franchise record for wins Saturday vs. Pelicans

With just one more victory this year, the Houston Rockets (58-14) can add to their historical season by achieving the most wins in franchise history. All they must do is defeat the New Orleans Pelicans at home on Saturday night in a nationally televised contest.

Shane Young of BBALL BREAKDOWN posted a graphic earlier today on Twitter that broke down the 2017-18 record-breaking Rockets’ season compared to those of other years.

The Rockets are fresh off of a 100-96 overtime victory at Toyota Center over the Detroit Pistons last night. Despite a poor shooting night as a team (35-of-99 from the field) by the Rockets, especially by superstar guard James Harden going 4-of-20 from the floor, Houston was able to hold off Detroit in overtime.

Via an article written by Kristie Rieken of The Associated Press:

“There’s not just one way you can win a basketball game,” Harden said after the win. “We’ve figured that out and obviously we know one staple that has to happen and that’s our defense. Once again tonight we did a really good job.”

However, Harden was able to get to the line 18 times on the night and sank 13 of those attempts. Rockets head coach Mike D’Antoni was happy with the win, regardless of if it was ugly or not.

“We found a way to ice the game,” coach D’Antoni said. “James found ways to get to the line and manufacture points. Eric kept us in there for most of the game … everybody had a little bit of a down day.”

Hopefully, the Rockets will be able to put together a strong game against the Pelicans and make franchise history on Saturday.
