Houston Rockets head coach Mike D'Antoni hopes to rejoin the team on Tuesday.
Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle confirmed that D'Antoni remains out due to stomach flu. However, he pointed out that the veteran coach is looking to make his return to the sidelines when they play the Oklahoma City Thunder in their final game of the regular season.
D'Antoni missed the Rockets' wins over the Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks because of the stomach flu. Associate coach Jeff Bzdelik took over the reins from D'Antoni in his absence.
Bzdelik told Feigen the two lopsided wins over Phoenix and New York are by-products of the culture D'Antoni created.
This is a by-product of Mike and the culture he's created here. Everybody is staying in their lane. Everybody is doing their job. It's a credit to Mike and what he's established here.
Most importantly, the players have been awesome. Their leadership, you can't have a good team, you can't have a great team unless you have great internal leadership and we have great internal leadership.
Everybody's come in. Nothing really changed. Everybody's doing their job.
The 67-year-old D'Antoni is in his third year as Houston Rockets head coach. A two-time NBA Coach of the Year winner, D'Antoni has led the Rockets to a 53-28 (.654) win-loss record and the the third seed in the Western Conference.
D'Antoni has amassed a career win-loss record of 628-498 (.558) in 15 NBA seasons as head coach of the Denver Nuggets, Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers and Rockets.
