The Houston Rockets have renounced the rights to center/forward Donatas Motiejunas after extensive talks between his agent, BJ Armstrong and the front office, GM Daryl Morey announced on Thursday.

While Morey did not mention any specific reasons for the change, the move will make Motiejunas an unrestricted free agent, which would allow any team to sign him to a deal, except the Brooklyn Nets, who made an offer earlier this month.

“Donatas was a true professional throughout his four seasons with the Rockets,” said Morey.  “We wish Donatas the best moving forward and want to thank him for his contributions both on the court and in the community.”

The Rockets plan to sign guard Bobby Brown back to the team, per Shams Charania of The Vertical, after releasing him prior to finishing up a physical exam with Motiejunas when he agreed in principal to a four-year, $35 million deal.

The 7-footer hasn't been cooperative when it comes to contractual matters, as there have been plenty of disputes with the Rockets in terms of length and salary for the deal. Once they agreed to the latest offer, he failed to show for the physical yet again, leaving him and the team in a state of limbo.

Offers don't seem very likely as the Nets — the only team that showed any interest in shooting an offer for the Lithuanian big man — is now out of the running because of a rule that keeps the team from making an offer to the same free agent until the season has elapsed.
