Royce White is taking his passions to politics. The former Houston Rockets first-round pick announced Tuesday morning that he is running for Congress in Minnesota's 5th Congressional District (MN-CD5). White tweeted a video, explaining why he felt the need to run for the position.

The video begins with a compilation of White's work during his time in the spotlight of the NBA. The Rockets selected White 16th overall in the 2012 NBA Draft. Despite never playing a game in the league, White used the platform he obtained to advocate for different causes, specifically mental health.

According to White, America is “in a crisis” and “at war” and must “fight the momentum of globalism.”

He then pointed to adversary Ilhan Omar, the current representative of MN-CD5. The Minnesota native said he has no problem that Omar is not from the United States. He is running against her because, according to White, she is a “globalist” and “a puppet for the establishment.”

Similar to what he did during his involvement with the NBA, White proved that he has no problem standing up for what he believes in. He called out large companies like those of big pharma and big tech in his announcement.

“Our sovereignty is on the line. The soul of America is on the line. What big pharma, big tech, and the corporate leads have done to us during this pandemic shows us tyranny is here. The line has been drawn, and it's pretty damn clear. We the people no longer have a choice.”

The U.S. House Minnesota District 5 General Election will take place on November 8, 2022.
