Throughout the years, the New Orleans Saints have had the luxury of playing at home with an oftentimes raucous crowd behind them in their favor on the field, and  head coach Sean Payton has a lot of appreciation for it.

This was once again the case this past Sunday afternoon against the Los Angeles Rams in the 45-35 win, which the crowd provided another element for them. After the contest Payton voiced his appreciation for what they bring to the table making it a loud environment for opposing teams to play in, according to The New Orleans Advocate.

“I thought it was good,” Payton said during the Saints' post-game news conference. “I've heard it louder and better to be honest with you. I thought it was good.”

Payton has said over the years that the Dome crowd can have a marked impact on the visiting team's communication. While he may rib the fans about not being as loud as he would like, it is something he is mindful of.

“We have a great fanbase … There's a significant factor in playing here,” Payton said. “Not every home game is like that for every team around the league. We certainly don't take ours for granted.”

This was certainly the case against the Rams as the crowd brought the noise whenever Los Angeles had the ball in the game. It is an element that could be used in the Saints' favor making it hard for opponents to do their playcalling efficiently and shift momentum in their way much greater.

Granted, it is something that can be silenced if the visiting team is decisively ahead in the contest. However, the fact that the fans can impact the game at all with their cheering and noise is a huge advantage that makes playing at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome a daunting task.

Ultimately, this makes the push for the top overall record in the playoffs that much more crucial for the Saints as it gives them a potentially added upper hand.
