Former Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jermaine Kearse announced his retirement from the NFL on Tuesday.

Kearse, 30, played five seasons for the Seahawks before two seasons with the New York Jets. He last played in the NFL in 2018.

The wideout announced his decision on Instagram.

“After 8 years playing in the NFL, I’m leaving the game feeling extremely grateful and content with what I was able to accomplish out there on the field not only for myself, but my family as well. Going through some extreme highs and some extreme lows has taught me a lot about myself and by the grace of God he was able to pull me through the rough times and in the end all those experiences were all worth it.”

In 2013, Kearse had 346 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns for the Seahawks, plus four catches for 65 yards and a touchdown in Super Bowl XLVIII.

After averaging 37.5 receptions per season with Seattle from 2013-17, Kearse was traded to the Jets and produced his best individual season. In 2017, Kearse was targeted 102 times, posting 65 receptions for 810 yards and 5 TDs.

A native of Lakewood, WA, Kearse went undrafted after four seasons at the University of Washington before signing with his home-state Seahawks ahead of the 2012 season.

“Seattle, as a hometown kid it was a complete honor to represent you guys out there on the field,” the former Seahawks receiver wrote in his retirement post. “Thank you so much for your endless support throughout my football career. It was an honor to put on that Hawks uniform and I’m so grateful I was able to help bring our first Super Bowl home! Something We will never forget.”

He finished his career with 286 career receptions and 23 touchdowns, including playoffs.
