The Ottawa Senators have made another massive splash in the offseason, agreeing to a three-year deal to bring Ottawa native Claude Giroux to the franchise. Giroux was one of the biggest fish in the free-agent pond, and now he's set to (likely) finish out his NHL career playing for his hometown team. The deal was reported first by Pierre LeBrun, who indicated that Giroux will join the Senators on a three-year deal with an average annual value of $6.5 million.

The Senators will be paying Giroux a total of $20 million over the next three seasons, adding one of the NHL's all-time great to their ranks as they look to grab a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference in 2022-23.

After swinging a trade to acquire Alex DeBrincat from the Chicago Blackhawks, the Senators have now added two of the most prolific wingers in the sport in the span of a week.

The Senators now boast one of the most dangerous offenses on paper. Their first line figures to consist of Alex DeBrincat, Tim Stutzle, and Claude Giroux. Behind them, fans can expect to see Brady Tkachuk, Josh Norris, and Drake Batherson. There's hardly a top-six in the East that has more talent, though we'll have to wait and see how they perform together out on the ice.

Last season, Giroux was traded from the Philadelphia Flyers to the Florida Panthers. It was the first time in his 15 years that he suited up for a team other than the Flyers. In all, Giroux registered 65 points in 75 games, including 21 goals. He added 8 points in 10 games during what was a disappointing playoff run for the Panthers.

Now, the 34-year-old Hearst, Ontario native is set to return home and aim to help the Senators reach the playoffs for the first time since 2016-17.
