According to Sportsnet's Jeff Marek, there could be one very famous suitor to purchase the Ottawa Senators after the passing of longtime owner Eugene Melnyk.

That's right ladies and gentlemen, the Biebs has entered the chat.

The Stratford, Ontario native and multi-platinum superstar Justin Bieber has reportedly “kicked the tires” on what could be an opportunity to own the Senators, who are the National Hockey League's 28th ranked franchise in terms of value according to Forbes AT $525 million. The 28-year-old pop star has a reported net worth of roughly $285 million.

The potential sale of the Senators comes after the untimely passing of Eugene Melnyk, a Canadian businessman and former founder, chairman, and CEO of Biovail Corporation, which at one time was Canada's largest publicly traded pharmaceutical company. Melnyk was well received around the league, as indicated in NHL commissioner Gary Bettman's comments after his passing.

“The National Hockey League mourns the passing of Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk. The words ‘passion’ and ‘commitment’ define the man who has owned the Ottawa Senators since 2003. Whether it was in the boardroom with his fellow governors, at the rink with his beloved Senators, or in the community with his philanthropy, he cared deeply about the game, about his team, and about bettering the lives of those in need, particularly underserved children, organ donation and, most recently, with his commitment to his parent's home country of Ukraine.”

Should the franchise be sold to Justin Bieber, it would make him the youngest majority owner in professional sports by a wide margin.
