In a very interesting episode of The J.J. Redick Podcast featuring Boston Celtics All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving, both discuss a couple of interesting topics. One of them is Kyrie's belief the Earth is flat and other conspiracies. Redick weighs in on a quite controversial issue: dinosaurs. He gives a couple of arguments about why dinosaurs probably never existed, contrary to popular belief and theories.

Redick said in the fourth episode of his podcast, posted on YouTube by The Ringer:

“I'm wrong on this. I know I'm wrong on this. But I'm not entirely convinced that dinosaurs existed. I'm not. So, I've come across some weird websites in my google searches. For example, the word dinosaur. It didn't exist until 1842. There was no word for dinosaur. And then, all of a sudden, during the next 15 to 20 years after this British scientist comes up with this word “dinosaur”, describes it in a medical journal, people start finding fossils.”

This is certainly quite an interesting idea. Redick says it does not make sense that humans have lived on Earth for so long and the first fossil was found just 150 years ago. He also speaks about a recent trip to the Natural History Museum with his son and said they both loved the dinosaurs exhibit. There, he found another argument to support his theory:

“I remember reading or someone telling me there that there's never actually been a complete dinosaur fossil found, they're recreating them. So how do they know what it would look like?”

Irving and Redick appeared to feel a connection for liking to do their own research to support their beliefs, even though they might go against popular opinion. Irving's flat world theory might be harder to support, but Redick's arguments on dinosaurs do no sound ridiculous. After hearing what he said, do you still believe dinosaurs existed?
