We are living through an NBA era where big men all over the league are jacking up 3-pointers. Some people love it; some people hate it.

Count Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid in the latter category.

It seems odd, because Embiid actually attempts 3.8 triples per game, but, apparently, he isn't too fond of letting it fly from beyond the arc, according to Tim Bontemps of ESPN:

“I don't like shooting 3s,” Embiid said. “I only do it because of the spacing that we have, and sometimes I have to take them. I have to be on the perimeter, just getting guys open, because of all the attention that sometimes it seems are presented to me.  I don't like shooting 3s. I only do it because I got to make it work, but the last couple games, mainly the last two games, my mindset has been, if I'm on the perimeter, it doesn't mean that I have to shoot 3s. Even if I'm wide open, I think I had a couple of opportunities tonight and last game against the [New York] Knicks where I could've shot it, but I took one dribble and I took a midway shot. That's what I'm comfortable with and it's working.”

Joel Embiid has not attempted a single 3-pointer over his last two games, both 76ers wins. Over those two contests, Embiid scored 24 and 27 points, respectively, doing most of his work down low.

On the year, the 24-year-old is averaging 26.4 points, 13.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.8 blocks per game while shooting 48 percent from the floor, 27.6 percent from 3-point range and 79.4 percent from the free-throw line.

Based on the fact that Embiid is shooting well below league average from downtown anyway, maybe he has the right idea. Just get down in the paint, go to work and draw fouls.

For the University of Kansas product, that appears to be the most efficient way of scoring the rock.
