Lopez made the perfect cut to the rim, with Holiday dishing to him for the emphatic in-your-face throwdown on Ayton. He was blocked by Giannis Antetokounmpo in a crucial play in Game 3 and now got embarrassed by a 33-year-old Lopez, who jumps as high as a can of tuna.</p><p>Lopez has been maligned for his lack of physicality and affinity to shoot outside shots. But he’s played his role perfectly for the Bucks, being an instrumental figure in the team’s surge in recent years. Splash Mountain has also been a respected locker room presence, being the most seasoned player of the Bucks.</p><p>Even though he hasn’t put up <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sports/nba/players/brook-lopez/b0420990/gamelog">eye-popping number</a>s, it’s not totally crazy to say that Brook Lopez has outplayed Deandre Ayton in the NBA Finals.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

He just never stops pursuing the ball. After Mikal Bridges muffed the reverse layup, Ayton immediately went to the rim to grab the board. He got rewarded with an easy bucket, while victimizing Lopez in the process.</p><p>All the talk about the 2018 NBA Draft has revolved around Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks and Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks. Many tend to forget that Ayton was the first overall pick of that class, and he’s shown why. Little did the Bucks know that Brook Lopez would do his own Giannis <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bucks-news-giannis-antetokounmpos-spirit-clearly-inhaled-by-brook-lopez-in-game-5-win/" rel="noopener">impression</a> in a pivotal 123-112 victory that has them sitting on the precipice of the NBA Finals.</p><p>Lopez dominated in the paint all night long in a throwback performance, going for a playoff career-high 33 points on 14-of-18 shooting. The big man was dunking all over the Hawks, including this insane alley-oop finish that was Greek Freak-esque:</p><figure class="op-interactive"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">BROOK. The above lob to Lopez was one of 13 assists on the night for the Bucks guard, who also poured in 25 points on 9-of-20 shooting.</p><p>Khris Middleton nearly notched a triple-double with 26 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists, while Bobby Portis had 22 points and eight rebounds <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bucks-news-bobby-portis-reacts-becoming-milwaukee-hero-game-5-place-giannis-antetokounmpo/" rel="noopener">starting in place</a> of the injured Giannis.</p><p>It’s unclear if Antetokounmpo will return to the lineup as the Bucks try to close out the Hawks in Game 6. If he doesn’t, Milwaukee should try to emulate what happened in Game 5 in order to get to the NBA Finals. In Game 4, Lou Williams led the Atlanta Hawks to victory minus All-Star guard Trae Young.</p><p>Lopez got plenty of help as well though, with Khris Middleton, Jrue Holiday, and Bobby Portis all chipping in at least 22 points. Their all-around effort wasn’t lost on the 33-year-old Lopez.</p><blockquote>“I thought we just did a great job of playing together. Obviously, Khris and Jrue did their normal job making plays for everyone. We want everyone scoring and doing their thing. Lopez has been asked about Middleton’s clutch play many times over the years. Obviously, first game of the playoffs, everybody’s amped up. Big game. This could have been a preseason game to him. I think he would have been the same way in the moment, shooting the ball and everything.”</blockquote><p>Middleton is always cool and collected on the court, and his jumper is so smooth. It looked like there was no pressure at all as he buried the dagger over Duncan Robinson to give the Bucks the win.</p><p>The Bucks star has hit a number of big playoff shots in his career, and this was just the latest. It was also extremely important as a miss would have likely meant another overtime in a total grind of a game that truly could have gone either way.</p><p>It was especially important to get this Game 1 victory after getting smoked by the Heat in last year’s playoffs. Losing Game 1 at home would have brought back a bad feeling of déjà vu, but now the Bucks have the series advantage and can take control with a win in Game 2 on Monday. He pretty much reversed the situation as he mocked Martin’s enthusiasm. Through his hilariously sarcastic reaction, Lopez reminded the Rockets rookie that he’s been around the block for quite a bit now and that being dunked on is no longer new to him. Diakite’s shot, off a long push pass from teammate Kihei Clark, forged a tie with the Purdue Boilermakers and sent the game into overtime. Virginia won in overtime to make its first Final Four since 1984. The Cavaliers then won two thrillers in Minneapolis to win their first-ever men’s college basketball national championship.</p><p>Lopez has taken Diakite under his wing in Milwaukee. He is trying to lead by example. Lopez had a great night in the Bucks’ third straight win. He had 19 points and 12 rebounds. He was also 7-of-10 from the field and 3-of-6 from deep.</p><p>The Bucks now sport a 35-20 record for third in the East.</p><p>Fans are not used to seeing Milwaukee in a position which is anything other than the top spot. After all, they were the best regular-season NBA team both last season and the season before.</p><p>But from the looks of it, the Bucks seem pleased with where they’re at right now. Regular season standings are important. But everything is different come playoff time. Then again, there are also times when it seems he has no clue what he’s doing.</p><p>Lopez’s latest brain fart came in the second quarter of the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/scores/nba/af203002-5504-4d7e-a923-2f60d3de576f/dallas-mavericks-milwaukee-bucks-01-16-2021" rel="noopener">Bucks’ game</a> against the Dallas Mavericks at Fiserv Forum on Friday. The 7-foot center was at the top of the key and tried to play point guard for some reason. The move, of course, backfired greatly.</p><p>The one-time All-Star faked the hand-off and uncharacteristically tried to make a move off the dribble. By the looks of it, even a giant like Boston Celtics center Tacko Fall would have had no chance of catching that “pass”.</p><p>For good measure, Lopez even argued that a foul should have been called following that embarrassing blunder. The Bucks, meanwhile, will likely forgive Lopez for that epic blooper since he continues to be a solid anchor for the team this season. The 32-year-old slotman is averaging 9.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.7 blocks, while shooting 41.9 percent from the field and 36.1 from deep in 12 games so far.</p><p>Be careful next time, Brook. Lopez was not bad himself, logging 14 points, four rebounds, a steal, and a very impressive six blocked shots.</p><p>Milwaukee’s opening victory has increased their margin to seven games against the second-seeded Toronto Raptors in the Eastern Conference. The Bucks are closing in on securing the top spot in the East with still seven seeding games remaining for them.</p><p>Milwaukee will be back in action on Sunday in what should be a tremendous matchup against the Houston Rockets. James Harden also had quite a performance on Friday, leading his team to a 153-149 overtime win against the Dallas Mavericks with 49 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists. Much like Antetokounmpo, the Rockets superstar has also entered the restart scorching hot. The 32-year-old veteran has exhibited this endearing trait of his once again in a recent interview, as he discussed life inside the NBA bubble.</p><p>There has been no shortage of complaints from some players about the challenges they have been facing while quarantined inside the NBA bubble, but for Lopez, it’s all about seeing the brighter side of things:</p><blockquote>“Some people talk about what the bubble is like and it’s a little tough and everything but we are so blessed to be in this situation to be able to come out and all hang out together, be with people we really care for and love and go out and hoop,” Lopez said, via Bucks insider <a href="https://twitter.com/KanePitman/status/1286424612767637504">Kane Pitman</a>.</blockquote><p>That’s an excellent perspective from Lopez, and one that certainly demands commendation. While other players are <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sixers-news-joel-embiid-jokes-hell-lose-50-pounds-because-of-bubble-food/">crying out loud</a> about their unsatisfactory hotel rooms or the inconvenience of having to wear a face mask at all times, Lopez is just happy to be there.</p><p>The 7-foot center obviously loves the game of basketball, and he likewise has the same level of affection for his teammates. He appreciates the opportunity to be able to play again, despite the dire circumstances brought about by the coronavirus pandemic.</p><p>It’s not always easy to look on the bright side in such difficult times, but this is exactly what the Bucks big man is doing here. The seven-foot beanpole has been anchoring the team’s strong interior presence so far, averaging a career-best 2.5 blocks per game this season (third in the league).</p><p>In fact, in their <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=401161269" rel="noopener noreferrer">117-97 win over the Nets</a>, Lopez finished with five blocks on top of 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists.</p><p>Lopez has assumed the role of starting center for head coach Mike Budenholzer and is averaging 10.2 points on 41.5 percent shooting from the field and 29.9 percent from downtown. He has also managed to stay on the floor, playing in 42 of Milwaukee’s 44 games so far.</p><p>Eric Bledsoe’s claims, meanwhile, is quite a stretch considering there are plenty of players making more meaningful defensive contributions to the Bucks at the moment. Some can argue that Brook is not even the best defender in the roster, as All-Stars Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton are amazing defenders in their own right.</p><p>Brook Lopez does emit an intimidating aura down low and can be a good help defender at times. So far, he’s averaging <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/player/gamelog/_/id/3448/brook-lopez">10.7 points</a> and 4.9 rebounds while shooting 41.1 percent from the field in 27 minutes.</p><p>Lopez has been a key for Budenholzer and crew. To recall, he entered the league as a traditional center, but over the years, he has added a reliable 3-point shot in his arsenal. This kept him relevant in today’s game where almost every single player on the court is expected to have a shooting touch from deep.</p><p>While his shot is not as consistent as those of pure shooters, teams don’t dare to leave Lopez open. He has earned opposing teams’ respect. As such, he has been a critical part of the Bucks’ relative success.</p><p>Last year’s 60-win season was a clear indication that the Bucks have arrived.
