We know Ben Roethlisberger will be the Pittsburgh Steelers' starting quarterback in 2021. It's a good bet that Mason Rudolph will be the backup, as Rudolph is joining Big Ben on the sidelines for the Steelers' final preseason game on Friday night against the Carolina Panthers.

That leaves Dwayne Haskins and Josh Dobbs, who will get the snaps under center against Carolina. While Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin hinted that this setup is ā€œprobably reflective of their position going into the processā€ of determining the official regular-season depth chart, he also said people ā€œcan assume whatever it is you want, but it may be wrong,ā€ per PFT's Josh Alper.

This seems to be a classic case of cryptic coach speak, with Tomlin basically confirming something while also trying to throw people off the scent by suggesting the quarterback depth chart isn't set in stone. Haskins did actually play very well in the preseason opener, but it likely wasn't enough to take the backup job from Rudolph. Still, Haskins is in a good position to snag that No. 3 job after his debacle with the Washington Football Team.

While Tomlin isn't being totally forthcoming about his quarterbacks, he does like the fact that the Steelers have so many solid options on the roster. While Haskins struggled in Washington, having him as the third-string quarterback isn't too shabby. If things go way south and a third quarterback is needed to play, Pittsburgh could do way worse than Haskins.
