Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell did not get the long-term deal he was looking for, which made it all but certain that he’d sit out training camp for a second-straight year. But that’s apparently as long as he's planning to sit out-for now.

According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Bell’s “tentative” plan is to skip training camp but be ready for the start of the regular season.

“I’m told Le’Veon Bell‘s tentative plan is to miss Steelers training camp but be ready for the regular season, and that missing games over the contract would be a shock. The Steelers also expect him to play a full season. Bell still has time to consider all options, though.”

Fowler’s ESPN colleague, Adam Schefter, floated around the idea of Bell possibly sitting out half the season after failing to land his long-term deal. With Bell heading into free agency, the idea of sitting out would be to minimize the wear and tear on his body. But Fowler says that it would be a “shock” at this point if Bell were to miss games due to the contract.

Bell mentioned in his tweet in the aftermath of his inability to strike a deal with the Steelers that 2018 will be his “best season to date.” That seems to indicate that Bell isn’t planning on sitting out games during the season.

Of course, talk is cheap at this point and so many different things can still happen. As Fowler notes, Bell still has a lot of time to change his “tentative” plan before the start of the season, so Steelers fans should remain open to all possibilities.
