Once upon a time, Stephon Marbury was one of the top guards in the league. He was so good that he was essentially traded for future Hall of Famer Jason Kidd at one point in their careers.

But the downward spiral that he took was well-documented and, of all places, it happened while playing for his hometown team, the New York Knicks. From averaging 21.7 points and 8.1 assists in the 2004-2005 season, his numbers plummeted to 13.9 points and 4.7 assists in 2008, coupled with a marred relationship among the coaches, management, and even the fans.

But one Knicks' follower expressed his love for Marbury in a recent tweet, and the former NBA player reciprocated it with a reaction that was short and strong.

Nowadays, Stephon Marbury is an active player in China’s professional basketball league, where he has achieved rock star status. It wasn’t just his play that was resurrected, but his image as well.

It is extremely difficult to imagine Marbury making a return. But at least, that fan tried.
