Combo guard Austin Rivers is reportedly giving back $650,000 of his $12.65 million contract as part of his buyout agreement with the Phoenix Suns. The 26-year-old Rivers saw himself shipped to Phoenix before he and the Suns agreed to part ways.

Suns general manager James Jones also talked about how Rivers and the team's front office came to terms on a buyout of the point guard's contract, per Mizell.

You’ve opted to immediately waive Austin Rivers. What went into that decision?

Mutually, both parties agreed (that) who we are, as far as our chemistry and our rotations, we’re building something special, something good. We just thought it would be best if he found an opportunity that fit him better.

Rivers, who was traded by the Los Angeles Clippers to the Washington Wizards during the offseason, played in every Wizards game leading up to the trade, posting averages of 7.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.0 assists.

It has been an underwhelming season for Rivers so far, and now he's seeking a fresh start with another new team. There was a report suggesting he was going to sign with the Memphis Grizzlies, but those have since been refuted for now.

It remains to be seen how the Rivers-Grizzlies contract negotiations will turn out. If he doesn't go to Memphis, there are reportedly a handful of other teams interested.
