Following his promising season with the Phoenix Suns, the team has reportedly extended an offer to their young big-man, Alan Williams, in an attempt to retain his services.

The said deal is believed to be a four-year contract.

However, the New York Knicks may not let them keep Williams without challenging the Suns as they are apparently intrigued with his upside and are currently mulling an offer of their own for the 24-year-old UC Santa Barbara product, according to Marc Berman of the New York Post.

“In an attempt to get younger and athletic, the Knicks were mulling an offer sheet for restricted free-agent power forward/center Alan Williams.”

“The Knicks view him as a diamond in the rough. One source told The Post the 24-year-old is “a serious candidate,’’ but Phoenix could match the offer.”

The Knicks are currently looking for young and talented players they can build on for seasons to come, and also provide Kristaps Porzingis a solid backup. Although they have different skill sets, and Williams is undersized for his position, he has proven this past season that he can hold his own against some of the better big men in the league today. He appeared in 47 games for the Suns in the previous campaign and averaged 7.4 points and 6.2 rebounds in only 15.1 minutes per game.

It’s still unclear whether the Knicks will ultimately make an offer, especially knowing that they will need to pay more than what the Suns are willing to give him.
