Rafael Nadal's chances of adding another Wimbledon title to his massive collection of Grand Slam wins are in jeopardy this year, with the Spanish tennis superstar dealing with what seems to be a painful upper-body injury. Rafael Nadal is scheduled to play the mercurial Nick Kyrgios in the semifinals of the 2022 Wimbledon men's singles tournament, but that match might result in a walkover for the Australian star.

Rafael Nadal is coming off a hard-earned victory in the quarterfinals against Taylor Fritz, getting past the 24-year-old American via a 3-6, 7-5, 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (10-4) score.

That was a gritty win for Rafael Nadal, who revealed following the match that he doubted his ability to finish the match, let alone win it, because of his injury.

Nadal also did not sound too keen on looking forward to his match against Kyrgios, someone whom he has a colorful history with.

But will he? After being given anti-inflammatories during Wednesday's match to “relax” the muscle, he said he wasn't sure of his availability for Friday's semifinal vs. Kyrgios.

“I don't know. Honestly, I can't give you a clear answer. I don't know exactly what I have. It's clear something's not right,” said Nadal, who will get tests Thursday for an issue that first cropped up nearly a week ago but got much worse at 3-1 in the first set against Fritz. “I'm obviously worried.”

If Rafael Nadal ultimately fails to show up in the semis, that would give Kyrgios his first-ever ticket to a Grand Slam singles tourney finals. It would also mean that tennis fans would be robbed outright of the chance to see another Rafael Nadal-Novak Djokovic showdown in a major tennis championship match.
