After taking the entire basketball world by complete surprise and making a memorable run to the Western Conference Finals, the Dallas Mavericks now find themselves just a few steps away from true title contention. During the 2022 NBA offseason, the Mavs are hoping to acquire another superstar to play alongside Luka Doncic. One name that's already been mentioned in several trade rumors is Utah Jazz center and 3-time NBA DPOY Rudy Gobert.

Coming off another shortcoming in this year's playoffs, all signs have pointed to the Jazz potentially parting ways with Gobert. However, Substack's Marc Stein has previously reported that the Mavs will not participate in an all-out pursuit of the veteran All-Star. Of course that could all change in due time – especially with all the drama and unpredictable nature that always comes with the NBA offseason. With that, we'll now discuss the perfect trade the Mavericks must offer the Jazz for Gobert.

Rudy Gobert Mavs Trade Perfection

Proposed Trade:

Mavericks receive: Rudy Gobert, Mike Conley, Royce O'Neal

Jazz receive: Tim Hardaway Jr., Dorian Finney-Smith, Reggie Bullock, Davis Bertans, Dwight Powell, and two future first-round picks

In this hypothetical trade scenario, Dallas gets a much-needed upgrade at the center spot while adding an All-Star caliber talent to play alongside the face of their franchise. On the Mavericks, Gobert would be the ultimate lob threat playing alongside Doncic. Gobert would also provide them with unmatched rebounding and rim protection that would fill a major area of need for the Mavs.

Having a center who can run the floor well and thrive in the pick-and-roll game like Gobert would make the Mavericks a complete two-way team. Also coming over to Dallas in this potential trade for Rudy Gobert are Mike Conley and Royce O'Neal. In Conley, the Mavericks gain a seasoned vet with extensive playoff experience who could take some of the scoring and playmaking load off of Doncic. Bringing in another ball-hander and facilitator like Conley would also allow Doncic to spend more possessions playing off-ball.

With O'Neal also in the mix, the Mavericks gain a reliable 3-and-D player who's a strong perimeter defender and wing scorer that can make big plays for them throughout the season. On the flip side of this trade, the Jazz gain an influx of exciting young talent to surround Donovan Mitchell with. Given that Gobert would no longer be in the picture, this would make Mitchell the focal point of their franchise while they'd also add some draft capital in this deal.

In this trade, the Jazz would have a ton of 3-point shooting, defense, and athleticism that would make them a more up-tempo unit. Just the very idea of Tim Hardaway Jr. lighting up the scoreboard with Mitchell and having an athletic big like Dwight Powell on fast breaks is something that would excite Utah.

Add to that the complimentary scoring and defense that Dorian Finney-Smith, Reggie Bullock, and Davis Bertans would bring and the Jazz would have a deeper and more dynamic rotation to work with. Overall, both teams would win big with this trade and while the Jazz would have to adjust some, the Mavs would get their desired center in Rudy Gobert who would form a lethal 1-2 punch with Doncic.
