Andre Roberson is not your typical shooting guard because he’s the kind that is primarily put on the floor not to find ways to make baskets but to do the dirty jobs. Mostly he’s deployed by Oklahoma City Thunder Billy Donovan to get rebounds, force opponents to commit turnovers, and to shadow the other teams’ best players. For New Orleans Pelicans head coach, Roberson is that type of player. A glue guy – and the best one in the league at that.

Fred Katz of the Norman Transcript has the following quote from Gentry prior to the Thunder beat his Pelicans on Friday, 102-91.

Roberson has found his niche in the NBA with the Thunder. He’s now considered as one of the top one-on-one defenders in the league and Gentry sees Roberson in the same ilk as a Draymond Green, who stabilizes a lineup that’s littered with offensive talents.

In a team that already features Russell Westbrook, Paul George, and Carmelo Anthony, the Thunder certainly could use a guy like Roberson, whose need to score gets even more microscopic in today’s Thunder offensive landscape than it was in last season when he put up only 6.6 points per game.

Clearly, Gentry knows why the Thunder signed Roberson to a three-year, $30-million contract in the summer.
