After what seemed like a season-ending injury for Oklahoma City Thunder stud Russell Westbrook on Monday night, the team was absolutely relieved to learn that it was nothing more than an ankle sprain for the former MVP. Teammate Paul George shared his thought process immediately following Westbrook's scary fall.
In a postgame interview, Paul George explained how he thought the injury was much worse than it actually is. Much like the whole Thunder organization and its faithful fan base, George was thankful it only turned out to be an ankle issue after initially suspecting it was a more serious knee injury.
George was one of the first guys who approached Westbrook after the latter landed on New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis' foot. Westbrook was visibly in pain, and George could only watch as his teammate screamed and slapped the hardcourt in frustration.
Despite losing their star point guard, George and co. were able to close out the ballgame and emerge victorious with a final score of 122-116.
Paul George led the way for the Thunder — who are now 5-4 — with 23 points (6-17 FG, 7-7 FT), four 3-pointers, six rebounds, eight assists, and four steals in 27 minutes of action.
While the Thunder have confirmed that X-rays have come back negative on Westbrook's ankle, there is still no word on how long — if it all — the 29-year-old will be on the shelf due to this injury.
