Oklahoma City Thunder supporters were given a proper scare on Wednesday night when superstar point guard Russell Westbrook was forced to exit the game after landing awkwardly on New Orleans Pelicans big man Anthony Davis' foot. Thankfully, it appears Westbrook and the Thunder have averted a disaster after X-ray results on the former MVP's left ankle came back negative.

We can almost hear the Thunder faithful breathing a heavy sigh of relief upon hearing this news. It could have been much worse for Russell Westbrook, who slapped the ground in frustration following the freak accident. He immediately headed to the locker room after the incident in the third quarter and was unable to return, which led many to believe the ankle injury was much worse than it apparently is.

Nonetheless, Westbrook is not yet completely in the clear here. The Thunder have not given any update on whether or not their cornerstone star will be forced to miss time because of this injury. Hopefully, it's nothing more than a minor knock and the 30-year-old is able to take the court sooner rather than later.

The Thunder powered through without their star guard and went on to defeat the Pelicans, 122-116.

Russell Westbrook has been great for the Thunder to open the new campaign. Despite a dip in his production (24.1 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 8.9 apg, 2.1 spg), the seven-time All-Star is shooting at a career-high 48.9 percent from the floor. Oklahoma City has won five games in a row after an 0-4 start.
