Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota is currently nursing an elbow injury he suffered during the team's loss to the Miami Dolphins in the 2018 NFL season opener. As a result, head coach Mike Vrabel has indicated that quarterback Blaine Gabbert may take some snaps under center in Week 2.

Mariota is currently listed as questionable for Sunday's tilt versus the Houston Texans. According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, Vrabel feels the Titans may have to use Gabbert as well this week:

Titans’ HC Mike Vrabel said he anticipates that there is a scenario that both QBs, Marcus Mariota and Blaine Gabbert, are likely to play Sunday vs Texans.

Needless to say, this is not the most encouraging news going into a matchup with a talented team like Houston. Tennessee had already been experiencing shaky play from both of their quarterbacks in Week 1. Mariota completed 9 of 16 passes for 103 yards and two interceptions before suffering the elbow injury. Gabbert did not fare much better after throwing for just 117 yards and an interception.

There are a number of reasons why teams seldom rely on two quarterbacks. The biggest one being that they hardly ever work out. However, Vrabel's anticipation could simply be the result of the uncertainty regarding Mariota's injury. Although it looks as though he is expected to play, he could very well be pulled early if he does not look up to par. This would make sense considering his struggles in last week's game. That said, it will be on Mariota to prove to Vrabel otherwise.
