The Minnesota Vikings received a devastating blow to their 2021 NFL playoff chances on Sunday, not only because they lost to one of their biggest competitors for the NFC's wild-card spots –the San Francisco 49ers– but because they also lost their star running back, Dalvin Cook, for an indefinite amount of time. The rumors about Cook's injury have been swirling all day, but ESPN‘s Adam Schefter put a rest to most of the chatter with this report on Monday Night.

To recap, here is a quick wrap-up of the last 24 hours since the Cook injury. First, the injury happened, obviously, and the play where it happened is brutal. Cook was tossed like a rag-doll and it seems that multiple body parts become entangled in odd ways, in the end, Cook was lucky to escape without a lower leg injury.

After the dust settled a bit came the first report from Monday morning. The information seemed solid and Vikings fans and Cook fantasy managers started to prepare for the next few weeks without one of the best backs in the game. However, Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer quickly rebuffed those assumptions in his usual manner.

Coach Zimmer being extremely coy about injuries is nothing new to anyone who has followed the league over the past decade. It is safe to say that one should take what Zimmer says with a proverbial grain of salt; don't expect much clarity from him regarding the situation in the future and instead refer to Clutch Points, Schefter, and the rest of the league's best reporters.
