Minnesota Vikings fans have been hoping and praying that their favorite team would find a way to sign star wide receiver Justin Jefferson to a new contract extension this offseason. Well, those hopes came true on Monday morning, as the Vikings and Jefferson agreed to terms of a historic four-year, $140 million extension that makes him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the entire league.

Jefferson has emerged as the best wide receiver in the NFL for the Vikings, and now, he's getting paid like the best player at his position in the league. Among the historic figures in this deal, Jefferson will get $110 million guaranteed in this deal, with $88.743 million of that being guaranteed at the time of his signing, which is also the highest figure handed out to a non-quarterback in the history of the league.

There had been rumors throughout the offseason that the Vikings were considering trading Jefferson, but teams that inquired about him were told in no uncertain terms that he wasn't going to be getting moved. Sure enough, Minnesota continued to work towards a new deal with him, and the result is this historic contract that ensures Jefferson will be spending the next few years leading the way on offense for the Vikings.

There's no doubt that Jefferson had heard the trade chatter surrounding him this offseason, but it never seemed like he had any desire to leave Minnesota. So it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that Jefferson was thrilled to land this new deal with the Vikings, and he quickly shared an awesome video on Instagram shortly after news of the deal broke.

This video is sure to get Minnesota fans even more fired up about this deal, and they aren't alone in being thrilled that the pen has been put to the paper here. As if the price tag on this deal wasn't enough to let you know how they felt, Vikings' owners Mark and Zygi Wilf quickly put out a statement sharing just how excited they are to have finalized this deal with their star offensive player.

Via Adam Schefter:

“Vikings owners Mark and Zygi Wilf: ‘Over the first four seasons of his career, Justin entrenched himself as the best wide receiver and one of the most electric players in the NFL. He is a special talent, a committed teammate and an excellent representative of the Vikings. Justin has earned this contract, and we are thrilled he will remain a Minnesota Viking for a very long time.'”

After being selected with the 22nd overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Jefferson immediately became a star for the Vikings. He's racked up over 1000 yards receiving in each of his first four seasons, including in 2023, when he only played in ten games due to a hamstring injury. There isn't much Jefferson can't do on the field at the wide receiver position, and he's only going to be 25 next season, so he still somehow has room to grow as a player.

Prior to the 2023 campaign, Jefferson had been offered an extension from the Vikings for over $28 million per year, but he turned it down, and bet on himself in the process. Even though he missed seven games, Jefferson proved his worth to Minnesota, and was somehow still one of the most productive pass-catchers in a campaign where he wasn't always on the field. That's simply a testament to Jefferson's greatness for the Vikings.

While Kirk Cousins will no longer be under center throwing passes to Justin Jefferson, the hope is that he can eventually form a deadly duo with J.J. McCarthy, who was selected by the team with the 11th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. This is a huge deal for Jefferson and Minnesota, and given how productive he's been to start his career, chances are he will prove to be worth every penny of this deal over the next few seasons.
