The Minnesota Vikings seem to have escaped major damage with cornerback Mackensie Alexander not needing surgery on his elbow.

Alexander went down with the injury during Sunday's victory against the Atlanta Falcons. He could be heard screaming throughout the stadium from the pain of the injury, before eventually jogging off the field.

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, Alexander won't need surgery, but the timeline for his return to the field is still to be determined.

The Vikings are thin at cornerback and losing Alexander for a long period of time is still a blow to this team. Mike Hughes is still coming back from a torn ACL and there is a chance he could play Week 2, but if he doesn't, if any injuries happen against the Packers, there is going to be some real problems.

Cornerback Holton Hill was solid last year, but he is suspended right now, and that has also been a huge blow to the team's depth.

Xavier Rhodes and Trae Waynes are the starters for this team and they are both really good talents and they should still be on the field for most of the time going forward.

When Alexander went out with the injury, it was rookie seventh-round pick Kris Boyd who was a standout at Texas who came in to fill the role.

He is a good player but young, and Matt Ryan and the Falcons attacked him when he was on the field. If he plays a lot in Week 2, the Vikings are probably going to have to scheme to give him help, or Aaron Rodgers could have a field day against hm.
