Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer is optimistic that wide receiver Stefon Diggs will play during the Vikings' Divisional Round matchup with the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday, according to Chris Tomasson of The St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Diggs is dealing with an illness and missed his second straight practice on Wednesday.

During Minnesota's Wild Card Round win over the New Orleans Saints, Diggs logged a couple of catches for 19 yards.

In the 15 games that Diggs played during the regular season, he caught 63 passes for 1,130 yards (a career-high) and six touchdowns.

The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Maryland, was originally selected by the Vikings in the fifth round (146th pick overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft.

He played in 13 games during his rookie campaign and was impressive, finishing with 52 grabs for 720 yards and four scores. Diggs then showed improvement the following year, appearing in 13 contests and snaring 84 balls for 903 yards while reaching the end zone three times.

The Gaithersburg, Md. native posted similar numbers in 2017, participating in 14 games and registering 64 catches for 849 yards and eight touchdowns before having a breakout year of sorts in 2018, playing in 15 contests and hauling in 102 receptions for 1,021 yards and nine scores.

Stefon Diggs seemed to be unhappy with his situation in Minnesota early in 2019, as he was being somewhat neglected in what was, at the time, a lousy aerial attack, but the Vikings' passing game improved as the season went on, and Diggs' usage and production increased with it.

Minnesota is looking to make it to the NFC Championship Game for the second time in three years.
