Could the Minnesota Vikings be moving on from linebacker Anthony Barr?

ESPN's Courtney Cronin seems to think so, as Cronin predicts that the Vikings will not place a franchise tag on Barr, which would make him a free agent next month.

Barr is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he registered 55 tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble en route to his fourth straight Pro Bowl appearance, and at the Pro Bowl, Barr said, “I know my worth and I know what I got to do/ I've got to do it for me.”

The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at UCLA, was originally selected by Minnesota with the ninth overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft.

He played in 12 games during his rookie campaign, finishing with 70 tackles, four sacks, a couple of forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and a defensive touchdown.

The following year, Barr made his first Pro Bowl after tallying 68 tackles, 3.5 sacks, an interception, three forced fumbles and seven passes defended.

Barr then made another trip to Honolulu in 2016 as a result of totaling 70 stops, a pair of sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery, and in 2017, the South Bend, In. native earned yet another trip to the Pro Bowl after accumulating 75 tackles, a sack and six passes defended.

In spite of how valuable Barr has been to the Vikings throughout his five-year tenure with the team, a franchise tag would cost Minnesota $15 million and would prevent the team from getting much-needed help in other areas.
