The Minnesota Vikings' defense gave up 37 points in a seven-point loss to the Seattle Seahawks this past Monday, and cornerback Xavier Rhodes was a big part of the problem.

Rhodes had a personal foul and was beaten on a long touchdown pass by wide receiver David Moore and then expressed his frustration by throwing his helmet on the sideline. Head coach Mike Zimmer reacted to that by saying Rhodes needs to do a better job of keeping his emotions in check.

The good news is that Rhodes is taking responsibility for his actions:

“I apologize to the organization, my team my family how I reacted out on that field Monday night,” Rhodes said, according to Chris Tomasson of The St. Paul Pioneer Press. “That’s not the way I should carry myself, especially as a leader on this team. I apologize definitely to Coach Zim, and the things he’s taught me.”

The 29-year-old added that he also knows he has to play better moving forward:

“I need to play it better. I need to play better out on that field, eliminate the penalties and just do well,” he said. “I’m never going to give up. I’m always a fighter, and that day is going to turn, that switch is going to flip, and when it does, it’s over.”

There was a time when Rhodes was one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL, as made back-to-back Pro Bowl appearances in 2016 and 2017 while notching a First-Team All-Pro selection in the latter year.

However, Rhodes has declined since last season.

The Vikings are 8-4 and will take on the struggling Detroit Lions on Sunday.
