Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer hasn't ever been afraid to speak his mind about players and even stars like Xavier Rhodes aren't immune to the criticism. After some struggles during the 2018 season Zimmer said that Rhodes needs to play up to his contract that will pay him over $10 million this upcoming season.

Many wondered how Rhodes would take the comments and if there would be a feud between the star player and coach.

Rhodes didn't seem to have any issues with the comments and said on Wednesday that he likes that Zimmer is hard on the players and agrees that there should be pushback for the way he played in 2018.

“Me and him spoke on that,” Rhodes said, via the Pioneer Press. “I mean, we had a bad year as a whole team, so everybody was messing up. We all need to come together as at team and correct our mistakes. I was one of those guys being a leader on the team, not making as many plays as I did in previous years.”

At times Rhodes said he gambled too much last year and that left him out of position but he and Zimmer both agree that getting back to the fundamentals is key.

“He’s doing better,” Zimmer said after Wednesday’s second session of organized team activities. “Getting back to the technical things about his game that he has to do.”

If the Vikings are going to get back to the playoffs and a run at the playoffs, Rhodes play is going to be crucial.
