The 2019-20 NBA campaign was not kind to the Golden State Warriors.

Due to a rash of injuries up and down the roster, the Warriors went just 15-50 in 65 games ahead of the coronavirus shutdown and were not invited to the 22-team NBA restart in Orlando.

Given that Golden State made five straight finals appearances and won three championships between 2015 and 2019, seeing the Dubs wallowing at the bottom of the standings is not something to which we are accustomed.

However, former Warriors big man David West thinks the club will be back with a vengeance next season:

“I think they’re going to be ready to roll, honestly,” said West, according to Sam Amick of The Athletic. … “You know, I think that they’re going to be in a mode where they’re crazy enough to feel like they’ve got something to prove. So I wouldn’t be surprised if they literally come back and…just bum-rush the league (with) the kind of thrust that they hit the league with (that’s) similar to what they did when they first sort of started.”

One thing is for sure: barring unforeseen circumstances, Golden State will certainly be a heck of a lot better than it was this year.

Prior to the hiatus, the Warriors were playing without Klay Thompson, who was sidelined for the entire season while recovering from a torn ACL he suffered during the NBA Finals last June. Stephen Curry also missed extensive time with a broken hand, and Draymond Green was in and out of the lineup with nicks and bruises.

It definitely would not be surprising to see the Dubs reassume their position among title contenders next year.
