Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr had some questions to answer after his team’s recent lackluster play that resulted in three losses in four games. The media had to ask him what has been ailing the team especially after a 125-105 home loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder Tuesday night.

In an interview that Mark Medina of The Mercury News posted on Twitter, Kerr shared his thoughts on their recent funk.

“We’re just in a rut. That’s how the NBA works,” Kerr said. “We haven’t felt this awful the last few years but we felt it. We had a stretch last year, it felt similar. We had to claw our way out. When you get in a situation like this, it’s not easy to get out of it but you know how you have to deal with it. You literally have to scrap and claw so tomorrow night’s going to be a grind. It’s not going to be easy. We’re not going to come out and score 140. It’s gonna be a grind. I know these games well. You have to win with competitive desire, defense and toughness. That’s what we have to bring.”

Additionally, Kerr said in, Medina's article for The Mercury News, that they have “developed some bad habits” and that they have to “get rid of those habits.” He then says that they “have to compete like crazy.”

The Warriors are so talented and so in tune with one another and their system that they have a tendency to relax and take certain games off. But the other teams are getting better especially their chief rival in the West, the Houston Rockets. The Rockets are only a half-game behind the Warriors in the race for the top seed in the West and the best record in the NBA.

If they want to get back to being the best team in the league, the Warriors will have to fight their way out of the rut they are in. Otherwise, the rut’s going to turn into a hole from which they will have a harder time climbing out of.
