Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr told local reporters on Thursday he did speak with star small forward Kevin Durant on Thursday following the death of Durant's adopted brother.

Kerr says “it's a very difficult time for Kevin and Kevin's family” and that Warriors guard Quinn Cook was very close with the victim as well.

Durant was in Oklahoma City on Wednesday to attend Nick Collison's jersey retirement with the Thunder. KD's adopted brother was tragically shot and killed on Thursday while celebrating his birthday.

The Warriors host the Indiana Pacers on Thursday. Kevin Durant is expected to play.

One would expect the Warriors crowd to give Durant a huge ovation to cheer him up and show that he's not alone during this tough time.

Hopefully while he's playing the game of basketball, KD can escape the sad thoughts running through his head and lose himself in the beautiful game of basketball.

Golden State has the best record in the Western Conference. The Dubs are 48-22. Durant is averaging 27.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game this season while shooting 51.3 percent from the field, 35.7 percent from beyond the arc and 88.3 percent from the free-throw line.
