Washington Wizards shooting guard Bradley Beal responded to the recent rumors surrounding his team's willingness to put any player on the trade block in hopes of snapping out of a horrid start to the season. The Wizards have gotten off to a head-scratching 5-11 start to 2018-19 and would consider dissolving the All-Star partnership of John Wall and Beal in hopes to try a different formula.

“I mean, I’m not going to be naïve to it, you know. I have a phone just like everyone else, so I’ve heard those rumors weeks ago,” said Beal, according to Candace Buckner of The Washington Post. “Then, I didn’t buy into them. Now, I’m still not going to buy into them because if that’s my main priority and focus is then I’m going to be messed upon the floor.”

It's unknown if the team will choose to trade Beal or Wall, but Beal is the most likely candidate, given his slightly friendlier contract and the fact he is three years younger than Wall, along with a relative plug-and-play into any NBA offense due to his skill set.

Beal can't really do much besides waiting to see what unfolds in the next few weeks and potentially try to change the front office's mind by getting back into the race in the Eastern Conference.

“All the behind-the-scenes stuff, I don’t like worrying about it,” said Beal. “I don’t like consuming my energy with it because basketball is my muse… my happy place.”

The Wizards had previously explored trading forwards Otto Porter Jr. and Kelly Oubre Jr. in search of a third All-Star to add to the fold, but all previous attempts did not get enough traction to merit a potential deal.

Beal has the right approach, but even his professionalism could prove little to avoid the inevitable.
