The Washington Wizards turned to an unlikely hero on Wednesday against the Boston Celtics to send the game into overtime. While Bradley Beal has been taking the bulk of the scoring load for them with John Wall still injured, Jodie Meeks showed that he can also be a clutch performer for the team.

With the Wizards down three with 5.5 seconds left, Otto Porter Jr. received the ball off the inbounds pass and quickly attacked the basket. He then saw Meeks wide-open at the corner and dropped a dime to him for the 3-pointer, which he knocked down to tie the game at 106-apiece. The Celtics failed to score on the ensuing play, setting the stage for five extra minutes of action.

The Wizards are trying to snap out of a two-game losing skid and are doing their best to win against their rivals on the road. They are currently in fifth place in the Eastern Conference but still have a chance to move up the standings to secure home-court advantage, at least in the first round of the playoffs.

A win against the Celtics will also be a huge confidence booster, which may also mark the start of a hot streak for them.

The Celtics, on the other hand, are playing shorthanded on the night, as Kyrie Irving, Jaylen Brown, Daniel Theis, and Marcus Smart are all injured. However, they are not using that as an excuse to drop games, and are giving the Wizards a good fight to try and improve their win-loss slate further.
