Recently, the Washington Wizards have been linked with veteran big man DeMarcus Cousins as a potential signing for the NBA restart. As it turns out, however, the potential deal is not something that might come to fruition.

According to a report by Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington, the Wizards are currently looking to sign a free agent to replace Davis Bertans, who opted to sit out the remainder of the season. However, Cousins does not seem to fit the current requirements of Washington:

The free agent would be for the short-term. And, because of that, they can definitively rule out center DeMarcus Cousins, according to a person familiar with their plans.

The Wizards are currently ninth place in the East, 5.5 games behind the eight-seeded Orlando Magic. They have been given an opportunity to compete for the final playoff spot in the conference, and you can be sure that they will put up a good fight for their place in the postseason.

Bertans, who is going to enter free agency this offseason, is certainly a huge loss for the Wizards and their playoff hopes. He has been one of the biggest revelations of the season, and Washington will be hard-pressed to replace him for the remainder of the campaign.

What DeMarcus Cousins brings to the table is anything but similar to that of Bertans, which is another reason why the Wizards are looking in a different direction.
