The Washington Wizards have promoted Tony Brown from assistant to associate head coach on top of four additions to the coaching staff.

Per David Aldridge of The Athletic, Corey Gaines, Dean Oliver, Mike Longabardi, and Jarrel Christian are set to join the coaching staff helmed by head coach Scott Brooks. Per nba.com, Wizards general manager Tommy Sheppard said:

“Coach Brooks and I worked closely to pinpoint what areas we needed to improve and identify the best candidates, both internally and externally, to make the appropriate changes,” said Wizards General Manager Tommy Sheppard. “We’re very confident that we have a strong staff in place that is in line with the vision we have for our rebuilding our culture and focusing on the overall development of our players.”

It'll be a tough 2019-2020 season for the Wizards as they'll be without star guard John Wall for the entire season. They'll be relying on their other star guard Bradley Beal to carry the scoring chores. Rui Hachimura, the Wizards' ninth pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, is expected to give the team a boost as well.

Given their situation, the coaching staff will have a critical role to play. In his first three years as the team's head coach, Brooks has brought the team to the playoffs twice. Last year, they failed to qualify amid injuries and team struggles. With the coaching changes, the Wizards are looking to become a contender once again.
