Michigan Wolverines coach Juwan Howard on Sunday was involved in a wild postgame fight with Wisconsin Badgers coach Greg Gard in the handshake line. Howard took exception to a late timeout made by Gard, among other things, which prompted the former NBA All-Star to fire a punch towards Wisconsin assistant coach Joe Krabbenhoft, who came to the aid of his colleague.

Some speculated about whether Howard's role in the fight would lead to him being fired. On Monday, Michigan announced Howard's shocking punishment, as reported by Dan Wetzel of Yahoo! Sports.

Michigan has only five games left in the regular season. Fines are also reportedly a part of the punishment. Given how the fight unfolded, Howard is probably lucky that he will still be employed by the university.

Already comfortable with their big lead, Gard subbed in his walk-on players while Michigan still had starters in the game. Gard called a late timeout to help Wisconsin advance the ball without being pressed. Howard did not appreciate it and let Gard know about it after the game. Garde attempted to talk to Howard, but it turned into a full-on altercation.

Michigan will now have to navigate the rest of the regular season with a 14-11 record, including 8-7 in the Big Ten.
