March Madness is here after a year on hiatus and it always brings back memories of past March moments. Every year, we're blessed with memorable moments from memorable players, so let's look back at 10 moments that make March what it is.

March Moment 10: Villanova Wins in Stunning Fashion

Let's rewind to 2016. Jay Wright had taken Villanova through a tough March road, filled with nail biters and exciting moments. All to face Roy Williams and UNC. UNC was red hot, filled with talent and coached by one of the most legendary coaches in NCAA history. After a hard-fought battle, the game is tied at 74-74 with 4.7 left on the clock. Villanova inbounds to Arcidiacono who pushes up the floor before shoveling the ball back to Jenkins. Jenkins shoots from NBA range, and the rest is history.

March Moment 9: Kyle Guy Leads Virginia Past Auburn

Virginia's national championship run was one of the most insane in recent memory. After being the first 1-seed in history to lose to a 16 seed the year before, Virginia found themselves back on top as a 1 seed. Lead by the trio of Ty Jerome, DeAndre Hunter, and Kyle Guy, Virginia made the run to the Final 4. In the Final 4, Auburn was steadily in the lead. Until Kyle Guy happened. Kyle Guy took over in the final 3 minutes, including the game winning free throws and secured a trip to the championship for the Virginia Cavaliers.

March Moment 8: Calipari Proves Freshmen Win Too

In 2012, Calipari had put one of his best Kentucky teams ever together. Throughout Calipari's time at UK, he had been criticized for heavily relying on freshman for their production and winning. The belief around college basketball was that freshman couldn't win a team a championship. In 2012, Kentucky proved that belief wrong. Lead by Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Kentucky was one of the best defensive teams in the nation. They beat a veteran Kansas team in the championship and proved that young teams can win too.

March Moment 7: Gordon Hayward Misses Halfcourt Heave in Heartbreaker Against Duke

In 2010, Duke and Butler had one of the greatest championship games in the history of college basketball. It came down to the final 4 seconds. The score was 61-59 Duke and Duke's big man Brian Zoubek was at the line. Butler was out of timeouts so Zoubek purposefully missed the free throw. Butler star Gordon Hayward got the rebound and pushed up-court. As the clock ran down, Hayward tossed a prayer from half-court where it bounced hard of the backboard and the rim before falling to the hardwood. Duke was national champs again and Butler felt the heartbreak of March.

March Moment 6: Jimmer Fredette Dismantles Gonzaga

Very rarely are second round matchups this memorable, but Jimmer made it so. After having a historic season for BYU, Jimmer Fredette continued that momentum to March. His game against Gonzaga in the second round was an incredible microcosm of the Jimmer experience. He went for 34 points, filled with deep threes and impossible finishes at the rim. It's a game many will remember as one of the best March performances ever.

March Moment 5: Steph Becomes a Lottery Pick

Steph Curry had one of the greatest tournament runs of all time, worthy of its own list of moments. His heroics against Wisconsin were particularly memorable. In this Sweet 16 matchup, Curry put up 33 points on 11 of 22 shooting. Including his trademark incredibly deep 3s and flashes of his crazy handle. He lead Davidson to the Elite 8, where he continued his elite play despite falling to Kansas.

March Moment 4: Hakim Warrick Blocks the 3 to Save Melo and Syracuse

Back in 2003, Carmelo Anthony was one of the best players in the nation and his Syracuse team was very good. They were playing a Kansas team for that national championship that had its own group of soon-to-be draft picks with Kirk Hinrich and Nick Collison. The game came down to the wire as Syracuse was up 3 but Kansas had the ball on the final possession. Kansas ran an elevator play for Hinrich but it was broken up by Syracuse. Hinrich swung the ball to the corner, the shot went up, but Hakim Warrick had a perfect close-out to the corner where he blocked the shot. A game saving blocked shot at the 3-point line is rare and is an example of why we love March Madness.

March Moment 3: Christian Laettner Winner Against Kentucky

One of the most talked about plays in the history of college basketball was Christian Laettner's turnaround fadeaway to Kentucky in the 1992 Elite 8. As Duke inbounds the ball, Laettner has little time to get a shot off. He quickly turns and fires. The bucket falls easily and Duke moved on to the Final 4. Eventually, Duke would go on to win the championship and Laettner's shot would remain forever in the history books.

March Moment 2: Georgetown Beats Houston

John Thompson has recently passed away, and looking back at his historic tenure at Georgetown, his best moment was the victory Georgetown had over Houston in the 1984 national championship game. Led by Patrick Ewing, this Georgetown team was one of the best in history. John Thompson became the first African-American coach to win an NCAA men's basketball national championship. This was a close game the whole way, but it ended with a Ewing takeover that lead to a Georgetown win and the team forever being etched into the history books.

March Moment 1: Wooden Coaches UCLA to 7 Straight National Titles

This is taking it way back, but it's a moment that deserves the recognition the others get. John Wooden is one of the most legendary coaches of all time and for good reason. 7 straight championships is an unfathomable number at this point in time and it was just as special back then. Wooden worked with elite talent like Lew Alcindor and Bill Walton during this time. John Wooden walked so modern basketball coaches could run and every basketball fan should look back with gratitude towards Wooden and his contributions to the sport.
