Liverpool nearly missed their chance for a historic quadruple. They won both of their domestic cups and are in the final of the Champions League. However, Aston Villa could not hold a 2-0 lead against Manchester City, and Liverpool finished second in the EPL. This team has the potential to be a true European powerhouse for years to come.

However, for that to be fulfilled, they also need to get rid of some players on their roster. Here are three players Liverpool must move on from this summer.

Players Liverpool must move on from this summer

Roberto FirminoĀ

To understand what Firmino did for Liverpool in their 2019-20 EPL title run and their 2018-19 run to the Champions League title, one must watch a ton of football. Similar to Karim Benzema when Cristiano Ronaldo was in Real Madrid, Firmino knew his role and fulfilled it perfectly. He was there to set up his teammates and play like more of a false nine, rather than an out-and-out striker. It is indicative that Firmino scored over 20 goals in all competitions once in his seven Liverpool seasons, but still remained such a huge part of their success.

However, with some changes on the Liverpool roster, Firmino is now on the outside looking in.

The arrivals of Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz made sure that Firmino is almost pointless, as he featured in just 20 league games this season. This season is the time to move on for both sides. Firmino is 30, so he still has time to have a revival season on a team where he will play on a regular basis.

On the other hand, Liverpool can free up even more space for both Jota and Diaz, something they need to do to make sure the duo is developing properly. Firmino's role in both the important titles Liverpool won in the last few years will never be forgotten by their fans, that is something that we can be sure of, but it is really time to move on.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Once considered a key part of the Liverpool rotation, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain only played 17 games this season in the EPL. Unfortunately for the Englishman, he was completely overshadowed by the resurgence of both Naby Keita and Thiago Alcantara. It is interesting to see that in the last Liverpool title-winning season, the Ox was featured 30 times, which is the same number of league games played in the last two seasons. Even worse for him, there are two new great youngsters on the Liverpool side just waiting for their chance. Given the fact that Oxlade-Chamberlain is almost 30 at this point, it might be smart to sell him this season.

With Curtis Jones and Harvey Eliott both eager to get their chances, it would be counterproductive for both the Ox and Liverpool to keep him on the roster. He would just collect pay and not play regular football, so it would be good for both sides to move on this summer. Chamberlain would have time to find a club where he can feature on a regular basis, because he still has the quality to do it.

Liverpool, as mentioned above, would have the time to allocate for Eliott and Jones, so it would really be a situation where everyone wins. It is still worth noting that Oxlade-Chamberlain has had some great moments for Liverpool.

Sadio ManeĀ

Now, this is a controversial one, and that is an understatement. Mane is having one of his best seasons in Liverpool and there are even talks of him potentially contending for the Ballon d'Or.

Yet, he is also getting on in age. If Liverpool do not capitalize on his great season in terms of his price tag, they will likely never have a chance like this. Additionally, many big teams need reinforcements that Mane fits perfectly. Real Madrid are looking for a marquee signing after the Kylian Mbappe deal fell through, while Bayern Munich also could need a winger if Serge Gnabry is to leave. This might be a situation of a time and place for everything, and Mane could be sold for this reason.

However, Liverpool have another rationale to follow, not just the demand for a Mane-type player on the market. As mentioned above, they have their duo of Diaz and Jota, both of whom should be starters next season. If Mane and Mo Salah are both there, they cannot be, so Mane is the clear choice of the two to leave. His age, combined with the moment in which they would be selling him, could be the reasoning for a potential Mane sale this year.

Again, in the ideal scenario, Liverpool would keep their star player, but if they are looking ahead, Mane has to leave this summer.
