In a surprising turn of events, the Pittsburgh Steelers failed to get past the struggling Detroit Lions as their Week 10 matchup ended in a disastrous 16-all tie. Mike Tomlin's squad hasn't looked as strong this season, but no one expected them not to get a win over the team with the worst record in the league, even with Ben Roethlisberger sidelined due to COVID-19.

After their most recent contest, the Steelers are currently sitting in the second spot of the AFC North with a 5-3-1 record. Certainly enough, a lot has to be done on the Steelers' end if they want to get back on track and secure a playoff spot by the end of the regular season. Hopefully, they will have already corrected their mistakes when they visit a hungry Los Angeles Chargers squad for Week 11 action.

With that said, here are three questions the Steelers must answer after their tough Week 10 outing against the Lions.

Pittsburgh Steelers questions after Lions tie

3. Can Pittsburgh cut down on turnovers?

One glaring area of concern that stood out in Week 10 was the Steelers' inability to take care of the football. QB Mason Rudolph started things off in the wrong direction as he threw an interception in the first half due to an inaccurate pass. This carried on to the latter parts of the game, as he failed to score a game-winning drive due to a couple of fumbles as well.

Other players also had their fair share of errors when the Steelers were looking to win the game in crunch time. In overtime, Rudolph located receiver Diontae Johnson, but the ball slipped off as he was tackled, which eventually ended up in the hands of the Lions. Also in the extra period, tight end Pat Freiermuth had a costly error, losing the ball on a drive before Chris Boswell got the chance to attempt a game-winning field goal.

Certainly enough, the weather conditions may have caused some of their turnovers, but the team should still try to overcome those challenges and minimize their errors, especially in late-game situations moving forward.

2. Can the Steelers' run defense step up?

The Steelers' pass defense was effective, as defensive coordinator Keith Butler and his men were able to contain opposing QB Jared Goff. He only managed to produce 114 yards on 14-of-25 passing attempts. However, the Steelers didn't have an answer when the Lions utilized their ground game to put up points across the board.

Opposing running back D'Andre Swift served as a major threat for Detroit, notching 130 yards on 33 carries. Fellow rushers Godwin Igwebuike and Jermar Jefferson each scored rushing TDs of their own while putting up 56 and 41 rushing yards, respectively.

Without a doubt, credit must be given to Lions offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn for devising an alternative plan when the passing game failed to work. However, the Steelers must also realize that it will be hard for them to get wins if they continuously fail in limiting the opposing rushers in the weeks to come.

1. Can the team fix its quarterback situation before the season ends?

Prior to the season, everyone knew that the Steelers' quarterback situation was one of their biggest question marks for 2021. Already in the twilight stage of his career, Ben Roethlisberger may not be the best option for the team, especially with how dynamic the game is being played today.

Mason Rudolph, on the other hand, previously played like a serviceable playmaker, but his outing against the Lions only highlighted the flaws of his game and showed that he still has more room for improvement. He failed to orchestrate the offense properly, tallying 242 yards on 30-of-50 passes completed to go with a TD and an interception.

Without their QB1 in Roethlisberger, the Steelers' offense looked shaky and had a hard time reaching the end zone against the Lions. Even if the veteran gunslinger returns in Week 11, there are still questions being raised as to whether or not he can hold his ground and successfully lead the team until the end of the season.

After their showing in Week 10, Mike Tomlin and the rest of the Steelers are surely on the edge right now, and they will have to find some answers for their quarterback situation as soon as possible.
