Kevin Durant is set to be a free agent after the 2018-19 NBA season. There are rumors and talks that he might be moving on from the Golden State Warriors. He has had his fair share of drama with fellow Warrior Draymond Green regarding play on the court.

Durant's brother even commented on an Instagram picture hinting that Durant is getting all the rings he can in Golden State before leaving the team.

Steph Curry received a super max deal from Golden State that has him locked up for five years. The team will have a decision to make when Klay Thompson and Green are set to get paid and it is likely that they only bring back one of them. If Durant decides to leave, the Warriors' dynasty could come to an end, but it has been one of the most dominant dynasties in history.

Washington is a rumored destination because of Durant's childhood and upbringing, but if there is one team that is a perfect fit, it's the New York Knicks.

What five reasons can be given to support the statement that the Knicks are the best potential landing spot for Durant this offseason with plenty of other teams expected to be interested as well?

5. Kristaps Porzingis

Despite missing this season due to a torn ACL, Porzingis has proven to be one of the best young players that the game has to offer. He averaged 22.7 points and 6.6 rebounds per game last season and shot 44 percent from the field and 39.5 percent from beyond the arc. The Knicks have not had a player like that in a long time.

Porzingis is an attractive player that can attract free agents without any drama or negativity.

In today's NBA, it is all about super teams and Durant has made it clear that he is not afraid to team up with other stars to create one. The Knicks have young talent in Kevin Knox and Allonzo Trier as well, but a duo of Porzingis and Durant could be deadly. Let's not forget about this year's lottery pick for the Knicks. All of New York is hoping for a top three pick so they could take one of the sensational freshman currently at Duke.

Kristaps Porzingis

With as poor as the East is, the Knicks could rebuild quickly and become contenders. Imagine this picture for a minute. Durant teams up with Porzingis, the Lakers trade for Anthony Davis, and both teams rise to the top of the league. What Finals matchup would be better than the Knicks and Lakers, LeBron vs. KD, Porzingis vs. AD, in two of the best arenas in basketball, Madison Square Garden and Staples Center?

4. Madison Square Garden

Washington and Brooklyn are teams that will have cap to sign Durant, but the Knicks have something that they do not, Madison Square Garden. MSG, nicknamed the World's Most Famous Arena, is the mecca of basketball with history of success in sports and concerts.

The Garden has not been electric because of the mediocre state of the Knicks, but fans from a previous generation still think back to the Patrick Ewing days and get chills thinking of the crowd. If there is one player who could turn the state of the team around, it is Durant, and the Garden will be a huge selling point.

Let's be honest here, where would you like to play? At the Barclays Center in Brooklyn or at Madison Square Garden in the heart of New York City. The choice is clear.

3. No More Ring Chasing

It is no secret that Durant signed with the Warriors to win the ring that was so elusive to him in Oklahoma City. He joined a team that won an NBA record 73 games but blew a 3-1 Finals lead against the Cleveland Cavaliers. When Golden State hit the Durant lottery, the rest of the NBA could do nothing but hope it did not workout. Well, it did and they are trying this season to three-peat for the first time in the league since the Shaq and Kobe Lakers.

If Durant has three rings when he hits free agency, there will be no reason for him to join a contender. He can play wherever he truly wants to be. Now, it is not clear if that is in New York, but there have been signs that it is no longer Golden State. He would turn the Knicks into automatic contenders, but he certainly would not be joining a team with firepower like the Warriors had when he went there.

2. Business Purposes

Basketball is a game, but more importantly, it is a business. This is a job to these players and coaches, which is something that people tend to forget because of the immense money given to them. Durant was drawn to Golden State because of their team, but also because of Silicon Valley. In 2016, Durant created “The Durant Company,” which is his Silicon Valley based start-up business.

New York is Silicon Valley times three. Many high-end social media companies have their offices in New York City. Durant's business partner's headquarters are stationed in New York. How much does this mean? It is not the end all be all of his decision but it definitely means something.

Top players and prospects get endorsements based on their success. If Durant ever went to New York, his stardom would increase significantly and he would be more than just an athlete.

1. Durant's Legacy

Durant has made it clear that it is all about winning for him and his legacy is secondary. What percentage of people believe him when he says that? Who knows. But the bottom line is, people were not happy when Durant “snaked” the Thunder and signed with Golden State.

Durant pulled the classic if you can't beat them, join them, but it turned people off because he could have beat them. The Thunder held a 3-1 lead in the Western Conference Finals in 2016 before losing in seven games.

If there is one thing that can save his legacy, it is going to a team that has struggled like the Knicks. If he were to turn them around, he would solidify himself as one of the best players of all-time. Winning a championship would be next level, but if Durant even led the Knicks to the playoffs or even an Eastern Conference Finals berth, he would be looked at as a hero.

Only time will tell what Durant will do, but the Knicks are certainly in the running and this possibility is more than a pipe-dream for fans.
