When Stokley Hathaway, the wrestling manager formerly known as Malcolm Bevins, made his debut at AEW‘s Double or Nothing, it put “Smart” Mark Sterling in a very awkward spot.

Though Sterling was technically still employed by Jade Cargill as her lawyer-turned-manager, the duo had been squabbling more as the months went on, most notably in the lead up to the Marina Shafir match, and were inching closer and closer to a potential parting of ways. Factor in the debut of The Baddies as more than just a section of the crowd and Sterling picking up a side hustle as Tony Nese‘s manager, and things weren't going particularly well for the manager of the current TBS Champion, at least outside of the ring.

The addition of Hathaway, who distracted Anna Jay enough for Cargill to hit an avalanche Jaded from the top rope for the pin, clearly made a positive impression on AEW's only undefeated champion, and when she took the ring for the first Rampage following DoN it was Hathaway, not Sterling, who sat next to her and Red Velvet.

This, apparently, didn't sit right with Sterling, so much so that he wrote a note to Hathaway to talk it out. The results, as you can see from the Tweet below, probably didn't go the way “Smart” Mark was hoping.

What's better than being smart? Being a smart alec.

Have AEW fans seen the last of Mark Sterling in Jade Cargill's corner, or will the duo reunite down the line? Well, considering Hathaway turned down a $250,000 main event contract with WWE to jump to AEW, it's clear Tony Khan has something cooking up for the fast-talking manager.
