Alabama Crimson Tide defensive coordinator Pete Golding was arrested and jailed on a DUI charge early Thursday, according to Carol Robinson of AL.com.
The arrest occurred at 1 a.m. local time, and Golding is being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail. There have been no other details released yet.
Alabama hasn't commented on the arrest either.
Nick Saban hired Golding in 2018 after the coach spent time at UT-San Antonio. Golding officially became the defensive coordinator for the Crimson Tide in 2019 after sharing the duty with Tosh Lupoi.
Alabama won the national title to cap off the 2020 season and then reached the College Football Playoff National Championship this past season, only to lose to the Georgia Bulldogs. The Crimson Tide's defense wasn't quite as stout in 2021.
Saban also relies on Golding as a big part of the recruiting efforts. Alabama reeled in the No. 1 recruiting class in 2021 and just wrapped up hauling in the No. 2 class for 2022. The Crimson Tide head coach praised Golding on Wednesday for his “great personality” and ability to sell the program to recruits.
While that all may be true, Golding just committed a terrible mistake with this DUI arrest, which doesn't reflect well on him or the university.
