After finishing in last place in the 2022 LEC Spring Split regular season, Astralis has started its roster rebuild with the release of Matti “WhiteKnight” Sormunen and Hampus Mikael “promisq” Abrahamsson. The departures of the Astralis top laner and support were announced via a statement on Thursday, March 10, 2022.

Both WhiteKnight and promisq were part of the first-ever Astralis League of Legends roster, back when the org rebranded from Origen after the acquisition of RFRESH Entertainment. Origen was famously the team that EU LCS/LEC icon xPeke had founded after departing Fnatic.

Under the Astralis banner, the team has only been around the LEC for a year and a half. However, their domestic campaign has been dismal at best. The 2022 LEC Spring Split marked the third split in a row where the team failed to qualify for playoffs. It's clear that Astralis sorely needed to make changes. They found themselves dead last in the standings with a disappointing record of three wins and 15 losses.

WhiteKnight had joined Astralis from German esports org Berlin International Gaming (from a non-major region league). Meanwhile, Promisq was coming from G2 Esports.

“We thank them for their contribution and dedication to Astralis and our League of Legends team. On the server, in the office, and as a part of the Astralis Family,” the statement read.

No details have surfaced yet as to where these two players will head next. It's likely that we won't hear more news until the Spring Split officially concludes, as the playoffs have yet to take place—set to begin on March 25, 2022.

Astralis will be looking to acquire new talent to fill the top and support positions now that their Spring campaign has come to an end. We might see more exits in the coming days, as the org will definitely be looking to start afresh by the time Summer Split rolls around. But it's also possible that the Astralis would wait it out until after the playoffs stage and assess their options. For now, the following players remain on the main roster: jungler Zanzarah, mid Dajor, and ADC Kobbe.

“Astralis will announce full details for our 2022 Summer Split once everything is in place,” the statement concluded.
